Don't Mess With The Hat!

People who don't wear cowboy hats don't understand how important it is to protect them from misuse. A good silver belly Stetson or Resistol will start at $100 bucks and will cost much more depending on the quality. Hence, if you fly with your cowboy hat it's a good chance it will remain on your head and not in the storage compartment.

While flying to Europe one time Bro. Jack sat comfortably in his seat with hat on head. He got real comfortable after the plane took off and slouched down a bit with his hat brim cocked over his eyes. Even so, the hat still could be seen above the seat back.

Well, it came movie time on the flight and Bro Jack not having much interest in movies continued to relax. Now if Abbot and Costello had been showing he might have watched but it was some fleshly "chick flick" that he refused to watch.

The man sitting behind Bro. Jack wanted to see the movie. So, he tapped Bro. Jack on the shoulder (first mistake), and said, "Sir, could you remove your hat? I can't see the movie." Bro. Jack might have shaken his head "no" but I'm not sure. Anyway, what kind of question was that!? Take off your HAT? He sat relaxed. The man again asked, "Sir, could you take off your hat? I can't see the screen."

Now, to Bro. Jack, asking such a question of him was like asking a Texas Ranger to give up his badge. It was a stupid question where he came from. A third time the man asked, "Are you going to take off the hat? I can't see the movie." This time Bro Jack replied in his stern manner, "You take it off!"...... Silence.... what next? The man wisely changed his seat.

The stories that exist about my daddy are more than an entire web site could hold, but one thing always stands out, daddy was a Man who was True to his Word, and He Stood for Right Action!
Many of the stories I hear are amusing but Don't Mess With Daddy's Hat had me in stitches! His children knew to not so much as touch the tip of his hat when we leaned up in the car to ask something of him, and lawsy day, DO NOT TAP His Shoulder!~lol!

You Have Always Been My Hero

I Will Always Be A Daddy's Girl

No One Truly Knew The Love We Shared

And Though Many Felt You Were Larger Than Life

To Me, You Were Just My Dad

I Love You Dad

I Miss You Terribly And I Always Will

It's Hard To Know Just What To Do

Since You Went Away

I Wish You Were Here

So I Could Stand On Your Boots

And You Would Waltz My Cares Away

Dad was one of the last of the Real Texas Cowboys
Who happened to be a preacher!

11/1/98-Dad with Misty

This evening was a gift to me. Before all my siblings came home, I spent the evening with my dad and mom, with my two girls, and not once did the doorbell ring and no one called. I do not recall the solitude we had that evening ever occurring before. Dad told story after story and although I knew he was tired and at 8:30 p.m. I stood as if to leave, he talked nonstop until after 10:30 that night. We were laughing and joking and he told stories I had never heard before.

He explained how to deal the second card and the sound when someone deals from the bottom of the deck. Later he explained how to throw dice correctly so as to not let them roll off your hand but rather sail through the air. I think my dad was a card shark before he became a preacher!!~lol!~

When we left that evening it was hard to believe dad was ill, much less consider that he would die in only eleven days. It is an evening my girls and I will never forget.

Thanks Dad.
